Let’s Learn About Water Safety for National Wellness Month!

August is also known as National Wellness Month, not just here in Naperville, but all across the nation. This month, it is recommended that you focus on self-care, managing your stress, and developing healthy routines for yourself.

One of the best things you can do for yourself is to drink water but, before you pour yourself a glass, make sure you are aware of water safety too.

Not only will this give you an idea of what you’re actually putting in your body, but it also could help you avoid some plumbing issues as well.

The Importance of Plumbing Safety

plumbingservicesHere in Illinois, we are lucky to have constant access to clean, safe water. The advent of modern plumbing has drastically increased our water safety, as it reduces pollutants and diseases that can be associated with stagnant water.

Without plumbing, our water would have the potential to sicken and even potentially kill people. Plumbing has been around since ancient Rome, but it wasn’t until the 1960s when the systems we use now were invented and perfected. There are now many different rules and guidelines in place to ensure the safety of our modern plumbing, which also ensures our water safety right here in Illinois.

How Water Filters Help

One of the most important tools in keeping our water safe is water filters. There are multiple different types of water filters available, and the type that is right for you will depend on the home that you live in. Some of the most common filters are:

  • waterfiltersThe activated alumina filter (which removes things like arsenic and selenium)
  • The activated carbon filter (which removes chlorine and other organic compounds)
  • The ceramic filter (which kills molds and algae)
  • The reverse osmosis filter (high effective at removing harmful chemicals and heavy metals)

Another newer style of water filter that has been increasing in popularity is the ultraviolet water purifier, which uses high-frequency light to kill any living microorganisms in your drinking water.

But What About Water Leaks?

waterleaksWhen many people think about water safety, they think about not swimming half an hour after eating a meal or drinking visibly discolored tap water.

But one of the other most pressing water safety issues is the issue of water leaks! Having leaky pipes isn’t always as obvious as a flooded basement.

Water leaks can also be a health hazard, as they are directly related to the potential for invasive black mold, hard water, and damage to your home. Water leaks can be caused by many different things, like shifts in your home’s foundation, pipe corrosion, tree roots, and temperature changes.

However, potential issues with water safety are numerous and should be addressed immediately. It is impossible to overestimate the impact that modern plumbing has had on our water safety here in Naperville and throughout the entire world.

However, with each new technological advance comes concerns about safety, and plumbing is no different. Plumbing concerns should always be handled by a trained professional.
